High School & Transition

Students enrolled in the high school program are offered challenging and engaging academic courses taught via American Sign Language with an emphasis in written English skill development. In addition to classes in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, high school students are also required to satisfactorily complete coursework in Deaf Studies, American Sign Language, and other elective classes. Similar to their counterparts in other public schools across the state of Wisconsin, WSD students build an active and dynamic online portfolio which helps students create their unique vision for post-secondary success. Aligned with Wisconsin’s Academic and Career Planning (ACP) initiative, students investigate their own strengths, interests, values, and learning styles to create a plan for their future after WSD – complete with individual goals and a personal plan for achieving those goals.
