2023 Graduation

DELAVAN, WI, FRIDAY JUNE 9, 2023: The Wisconsin School for the Deaf proudly presents its 6 graduating seniors. See below for information on this year’s graduates.  The Wisconsin School for the Deaf is a residential school for students ages 3-21 who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind from throughout the state of Wisconsin. WSD is a program under the Wisconsin Educational Services Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, which also includes the Outreach Services program, and our Statewide Deafblind grant project (WDBTAP). WESP-DHH operates under the direction of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Destiny Kahl – Janesville, WI Destiny became a Wisconsin School for the Deaf student when she was in sixth grade. She is a hard worker, connoisseur of art, and enjoys exploring nature. Destiny was involved in high school basketball, cheerleading, and Jr. NAD. Destiny earned Glowing Firebird of the Month award, Athlete of the Month, National Chuck Baird DeVia Youth Competition, an all-year PBIS Positive Behavior award, and high honor roll. After graduation, Destiny plans to attend college and take classes in psychology.  Congratulations, Destiny! Salma Mohamed – Green Bay, WI Salma Mohamed joined Wisconsin School for the Deaf as a senior. She is kindhearted  and enjoys socializing with her school friends.  Salma was involved in the high school basketball team, track and field, ASL club, and drama.  She earned awards in PBIS Positive Behavior, Perfect Attendance, honor roll, high honor roll, and Athlete of the Month.  After graduation, Salma plans to work at Target.  Congratulations, Salma!  Malakai Sanders – Sun Prairie, WI Malakai joined Wisconsin School for the Deaf as a 7th grader, he has truly improved as a student, and his character brightened the school. He came as the class clown with a great sense of humor, charm, and openness to experience. In his time here, he has participated in high school football, basketball, track & field, cheerleading, ASL club, Jr NAD, SBG (Student Body Government), and a Sign Song Dancer (SSD). This optimistic guy earned close to an all-year Positive Behavior award, High Honor Roll, an All-Star basketball medal  and Cheerleading All Star team at the GPSD tournament. Furthermore, he was a Prom king during his junior year and Homecoming King.  After graduation, Malakai will attend a carpenter apprenticeship program in Madison. Congratulations, Malakai! Tastasia Turner – West Allis, WI Tastasia came to Wisconsin School for the Deaf as a freshman in high school and we are glad she did. In her time here, she was involved in high school Track and Field and Sign Song Dance.  Also, she earned all-year PBIS Positive Behavior, perfect attendance, Honor Roll, and the honorary Hair Braiding award. She was prom queen during her junior year and Homecoming queen during her senior year. Tastasia plans to continue her…
