Health & Nutrition

Health Center

In the event of student illness, the Health Center offers a comfortable environment for students to rest and be monitored. Nursing staff work closely with family physicians or other involved medical personnel to meet the needs of students. Contact and open communication with families make WSD’s Health Center a reassuring component of campus life.

Nutrition

The nutrition goals at WSD are designed to provide adequate calories and nutrients while reducing fats. We offer a variety of foods including plenty of whole grains, vegetables, and fruit on our daily menus. A salad bar is available to students every day along with the daily entrée. Milk is a standard part of each meal. The food service staff takes pride in serving nutritious food to our students including those with special dietary needs.

Wellness Policy

The Wisconsin School for the Deaf is committed to providing a school and dormitory environment that enhances learning and development of lifelong wellness practices. As a residential facility, we recognize that our school is in a unique position to make a significant impact on our student’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting a healthy environment where children will learn and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices. We also believe that children need access to and the opportunity to participate in physical activities in order to grow, learn, and thrive.
