Students ranging from 1st grade through 5th grade are housed on the same floor in Huff Hall. At this level, students learn daily living skills in a natural yet structured setting. Students are given lots of positive reinforcement for their efforts in completing daily tasks to aid in promoting healthy self-esteem and pride in their accomplishments. Our youngest students are involved in various after school activities planned by the Residential Advisors on their floor. These activities may include crafts, group games, and free play time. Students in grades 5th and up are eligible to participate in the Middle School sports program. Our caring staff do their best to help these young ones make the adjustment from being at home to dormitory life.
Activities/Daily Schedule
Even at the elementary school level, WSD offers a variety of after school activities for our students. Such activities include drama, rhythm club, ASL club and some opportunities for athletics. All students are allowed the time to attend religious services if they wish to do so. Students also enjoy their free time playing with friends outside on our beautiful campus, or in the Firebird Recreational Center.
