The team meets throughout the school year and competes in the national competition sponsored by Gallaudet University.\n\n<a title=\"Visit Gallaudet's Battle of the Books website\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gallaudet.edu\/youth-programs\/battle-of-the-books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gallaudet&#8217;s Battle of the Books<\/a> competition was created to promote literacy amongst deaf and hard of hearing middle school students, to promote a spirit of academic competition and good sportsmanship, and to encourage critical thinking skills. The competition is divided into three groups: Buff, Blue, and Green. Schools that have deaf programs compete against each other in preliminary and playoff competitions via video phone, and in the national competitions at Gallaudet University to ultimately decide the champions in each group.
