State Superintendent’s Advisory Council on Deaf/Hard of Hearing Programs

This council advises the State Superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction in matters pertaining to educational services for children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing. Specifically, this council carries out this function by identifying and prioritizing issues and needs of children and youth who are deaf and hard of hearing in the state of Wisconsin, acting as a conduit between professionals in the field of education and the policy bodies of the state. Recommendations are developed that facilitate educational opportunities for children and youth who are deaf and hard of hearing with input from professionals involved in providing educational opportunities for these children. The Superintendent’s Advisory Council on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs is mandated by Wisconsin State Statute 15.377(2).

Call for Nominations

The Department of Public Instruction’s Special Education Team and the Wisconsin Educational Services Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are searching for diverse, motivated individuals to serve on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs. This council meets 3-4 times per year and works to advise the State Superintendent on topics specific to the needs of Wisconsin’s students who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind. Representation from various professional fields that serve this population, along with deaf individuals, parents of deaf children, and community members make up the council.

The council currently has one opening for a Director of Special Education. If you are interested in serving on the Council, please fill out the council Nomination Form, and send to kathleen.lincoln@wesp-dhh.wi.gov.

Applicants from diverse backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to apply!
