The Wisconsin School for the Deaf Firebirds Athletics is a member of the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA). The vision of NDIAA is to promote and recognize the growth and achievements of the Deaf interscholastic programs including athletes and coaches. The Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) is a member of the Indian Trails Conference (ITC), which includes ten schools competing in boys’ and girls’ athletics. In football, WSD competes as a member of the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf (GPSD) Conference.
WSD is also a member of the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf (GPSD) and participates in GPSD-sponsored tournaments and competitions, including volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, track and field, and Academic Triathlon events such as the Academic Bowl, ASL Bowl, and Oratorical Bowl. Prior to joining the GPSD, WSD was a member of the Central States Schools for the Deaf (CSSD).
The WSD Special Olympics program is a member of the Special Olympics Wisconsin and participates in state championship events, including bowling, snowshoeing, basketball, and track and field.
To participate in interscholastic athletics, students must have a current sports physical and a signed parental permission form on file with the school before joining a team.
