“I attended oral and mainstream schools for years before enrolling at Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD). I can say there is no place like WSD where I first felt whole and accepted for who I am without any medical perspectives on me. I gained my identity as a Deaf person and learned to be culturally proud.”

“WSD is truly the best school for deaf and hard of hearing children in the whole state of Wisconsin. No other school in Wisconsin can match WSD’s ability to provide its deaf and hard of hearing children full access to socialization, sports, and education. The teachers and staff all know American Sign Language. The bilingual approach to education is most successful at teaching both English and ASL. Many WSD graduates have gone on to graduate from colleges and universities. Many becoming very successful in their professional endeavors.

I am a proud alumni of this school. My parents were teachers of this school, and my children are currently attending this school. I was president of WSD Student Body Government, captain of WSD football & track and field teams, and WSD Homecoming king. I am very thankful for the rich experience I received through socialization, sports, and education from WSD.”
