    FREE event for families of kids with hearing loss - all ages and stages. FREE childcare provided. Sign Language, Spanish, Hmong interpretation available upon request. (Need at least two weeks notice.)

    Parents, Children, Extended Family and Siblings!

    Why

    This parent-led event will be fun for the whole family!

    Resource Sharing

    Bring a favorite mobile app or resource to share with the group.

    How

    • Children will have fun and tour the Museum. Free childcare will be provided.
    • The adults (parents / extended family / caregivers) will meet in a conference room on the same floor as the kids to network with one another in this area and share experiences / resources as families of kids with hearing loss.
    • We will end our time together by having a story read aloud and signed as we bring kids back together with their parents / caregivers.

    Connecting children, families and communities through play! DHH PLAYGROUPS offer children ages birth to five who are deaf and hard of hearing, their parents, families, and caregivers the opportunity to have fun and learn in a friendly environment that promotes language, early literacy, and social & emotional development. While implementing a Total Communication (TC)* philosophy, DHH Playgroups welcome everyone to participate in play, songs, arts & crafts, stories, and enjoy the experience of getting together!

    DHH Playgroups include, circle time, free play, table activities, and group snack time. Activities are presented using sign and spoken language. This is a great time for families who are just beginning to use sign language to practice their skills. While interacting with their children, parents have the opportunity to learn about hearing loss, discover resources, and support each other through chatting with parents, professionals, and members associated with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.

    DHH Playgroups are open to families who have children with hearing or speech differences, infant to age 5. Family members, including hearing siblings, are welcome.
    $25 annual registration fee. Registrations can be made online or complete the registration form and send by mail. Send registration payment by mail or in person (online payment is not accepted).

    LITTLE LISTENERS is an Early Support Service that assists families in developing a sound foundation for their early listener using auditory/oral communication. Through play, speech and listening activities, children and parents will learn strategies to support listening skills and spoken language development. Parents will have opportunities to share experiences and questions with other families in a supportive environment.

    Sessions focus on aural habilitation (developing language, training in listening, and proper use of hearing device) and include small group, hands-on activities, and “talking points”. Little Listeners is designed to support children (18-36 mos.) with hearing and/or speech differences and their families.

    This 10-week class will teach ASL signs frequently used between parents and their young children, and those essential to communicating with the Deaf Community. Individuals will learn family signs, verbs, emotions, and vocabulary used to communicate within the daily routine. Purposeful activities will coach participants on the language and structure of ASL and Deaf Culture.
    Class is open to the community. Class size is limited, minimum enrollment required; cost is $60.00/PP. Register by September 10, 2018.
